Fontlala respects the rights of type designers and foundries. We respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable copyright law, including the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) where relevant. This page explains how to ask us to remove or correct a font, and what happens next.

How fonts appear on Fontlala

Fontlala is a catalogue of freely distributed fonts. Fonts are added on the understanding that whoever made them available has the right to distribute them. We are a small team and cannot independently verify the ownership or licence of every font in the library, so we rely on rights holders to let us know when something is wrong.

Reporting a font

The fastest way to report a problem is the Report a violation button on the font's page. You can also email us at [email protected]. Please send a separate notice for each font, and double-check that the font you are reporting is actually yours — many typefaces share similar names.

What your notice must include

So we can act quickly, a valid takedown notice should contain:

• The name and URL of the font on Fontlala that you believe infringes your rights.
• Identification of the original work, and evidence that you own it or are authorised to act for the owner.
• Your name, organisation (if any), email address, and postal address.
• A statement that you have a good-faith belief the use is not authorised by the rights holder, its agent, or the law.
• A statement that the information in your notice is accurate, and that you are the owner or authorised to act on the owner's behalf.
• Your electronic or physical signature.

What we do

We review complete notices, typically within 1–3 business days, and remove or disable access to the reported font where the notice is valid. We may also correct the designer credit or licence information instead of removing the font, if that resolves the issue. We keep a record of notices we receive.

Counter-notice

If your font was removed and you believe this was a mistake or misidentification, you may send a counter-notice to [email protected]. It should identify the removed font, include a statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief it was removed in error, provide your contact details and consent to the jurisdiction of the appropriate courts, and include your signature. We may restore the material if we do not receive notice of legal action from the original complainant within a reasonable time.

False claims & repeat infringers

Submitting a false or bad-faith notice may expose you to liability for damages, including costs and legal fees. We also reserve the right to remove content from, and terminate the accounts of, uploaders who repeatedly make infringing material available.
